As one of the programs for Kimono Month, there was the annual exhibition of quilt art in Tokamachi. The works shown were entries from all over Japan. The woman in the audience at the second from the right in the photo worked in the city government. For generations her family had been artisans who dyed and hand-drew kimono fabric. She had learnt these techniques when she was young, but eventually she chose to become a civil servant, and not a fabric artisan. In recent years she had become interested in quilt art, and that had reignited her passion for crafts. She was now thinking how she could include her knowledge of traditional kimono technique into the making of a quilt.
作為十日町和服月的活動之一，每年都會舉辦拼布工藝被展覽，作品募集自全國各地。 相中右邊第二位觀眾在市政府工作，她的家族幾代以來都是以染製和刺繡和服用絹布 為業。雖然她自幼也掌握這種工藝，但她最終選擇了當一名公務員，不再染指和服製 作。從幾年前開始，她對拼布工藝產生了興趣。這讓她重新找回對工藝手作的興趣， 她在想如何將傳統染色和刺繡的技術融合到拼布工藝製作上。

十日町で行われる着物月間のプログラムの一つとして、キルトの通年展示が催され た。作品は日本全国から募集された。写真の中で右から二番目の観客は、市役所の 職員だ。代々彼女の家族は、着物地の引染と手描の製品に関わる仕事についていた ため、彼女も幼い時にその技術を学んだ。けれども結局、市の職員になることを選 び、職人になることはなかった。最近、キルトの作品に興味を持ち始めた彼女は、 手工業というものへの想いに気づくことになった。伝統工芸をキルトづくりに生か す方法はないかと考えていたのだった。
