At the top is a report, with a photo, of some of the action during the Aiyoshi community harvest of nozawana, a popular local Japanese leafy vegetable. On the right of the photo is a woman in grey who is aged around 50. She had a part-time job in a supermarket during the week and worked in the morning. Because nozawana cost two-thirds of the market price at the harvest, and was also really delicious, she had decided to come with some co-workers. Although this was the era of Abenomics, the policy advocated by Prime Minister Abe to promote the economy of Japan, the benefits of the policy had yet to reach many of the people in the countryside. To make ends meet she had to find ways to cut her personal expenses.
