This photo is of a trade union protest held in front of the Chuetsu Bus headquarters in Tokamachi. In the 1950s and 60s Japanese corporations had not yet begun to seriously consider the safety and well-being of their employees. Disputes between employers and employees had increased. Mrs. Nisizawa had been an attendant and tour guide on long distance tour buses before she had married. The man in the light-coloured medium length-coat and hat was a tour bus driver who had been working for the company for more than ten years. He often had to drive for long hours without sufficient rest between journeys. He found this very exhausting. He hoped that the company would consider allowing employees longer breaks between drives and improving their salaries.

これは十日町の中越バス本部前の労働組合抗議だ。50 年代と 60 年代の日本の企業 は、労働現場の安全や衛生、従業員の福利厚生を十分に考慮しておらず、雇用者と 従業員の間の紛争が増加していた。西澤さんは、結婚前に長距離バスツアーの案内 係とツアーガイドをしていた。明るい色の中位の長さのコートを着て、帽子を被っ た男性は、この会社で 10 年以上にわたって働いていたツアーバスの運転手だった。 彼は、十分な休息を取らずに長時間運転しなければならないことが非常に多く、と ても疲れていた。彼が望んだのは、従業員が運転間の休憩時間をより長くとること、 さらに従業員の給料を上げることを会社が認め検討することだった。
