Mrs. Nisizawa had joined a bus tour to the annual public military demonstration held at the JGSDF East Fuji Maneuvers Area in Shizuoka Prefecture. She thought it would be similar to a war movie and was excited to take this photo of a para- trooper landing in front of her. However six months earlier a sergeant from the 1st Airborne Brigade had died when his parachute failed to open during a training jump from 2,000 meters. It was the first fatality of this kind in 35 years and was a tremendous tragedy for his compatriots. The paratrooper in the photo, a close friend of the sergeant, was feeling particularly sentimental on the day of the exercise. The moment his parachute opened, a wave of relief had swept through him. He had released the psychological burden of his friend’s death.
西澤太太參加了上鄉的巴士旅行團，往静岡縣的東富士演習場參觀陸上自衛隊周年軍 事演習，眼見戰爭電影般的場面，興奮拍下傘兵快要著陸一刻。就在半年前，陸上自 衛隊第一空降團一位「三等陸曹」(相當於下士)在相同地點訓練，從二千米高空躍下， 可惜降傘最終沒有打開而跌死。這是 35 年來首宗造成死亡的同類事故，同袍都非常難 過。照片中的傘兵跟他情同手足，今天懷著複雜心情參與演習，降傘打開的一刻心靈 如釋重負。

西澤さんは静岡県の東富士演習場へのバスツアーに参加し、毎年開催されている自 衛隊の軍事演習の一般公開を見学した。彼女はそれが戦争映画に似ていると思い、 興奮しながら、このパラシューターが着陸する写真を撮った。しかしながら、半年 前には、訓練で来ていた第 1 空挺旅団の伍長が、同じ場所で、高さ 2,000m のダ イビングからパラシュートが開かず、死亡していた。それはこの 35 年間における、 最初の致命的な事故であり、彼の仲間にとっては驚くべき悲劇だった。この写真の パラシューターは、この伍長の親しい友人であり、この日の演習は最も感傷的なも のだった。パラシュートが開かれた瞬間、彼は心理的負担から解放された。
