Mr. Moriguchi took this picture of his wife and child when he was taking part in the Niigata Prefecture Inter-Districts Sports Tournament. This tournament was a very popular neighbourhood social activity, even for those who were not much into sports. Behind Mr. Moriguchi’s wife and child the badminton players are warming up. The man in the orange tracksuit was a junior staff member in a construction company and had prepared for three months for this meet. Unfortunately a few days ago he had accidentally burnt his right hand at home. He did not want to withdraw as his boss was also his teammate. He decided to keep going and play using his left hand which he had trained hard with over the last two days. He didn’t mind losing but he did hope to score at least one point.
這是森口先生一家參加新潟的「地區對抗運動大會(地区対抗スポーツ大会)」時為太 太和孩子拍下的。這些地區活動的聯誼作用很大，很多坊眾即使並不熱衷運動，也會 踴躍參加。太太和孩子身後的羽毛球選手正在熱身，穿橙色運動服的是位建築公司的 初級職員，本來為了今次比賽積極備戰了三個月，可惜日前在家燙傷了右手，但本區 的隊友也包括自己的上司，他就不想就此退出，改以左手苦練了兩天來參賽。他並不 介意輸，只要不捧蛋就好了。

森口さんがこの妻と子供の写真を撮ったのは、彼が新潟県の地区対抗スポーツ大会 に参加していたときのことだった。この大会は地域の社会活動としてとても人気が あったもので、普段あまりスポーツをしない人にとってもそうだった。森口さんの 妻と子供の後ろではバトミントンの選手がウォーミングアップをしている。オレン ジの運動着に身を包んだ人物はある建設会社の若い社員で、この試合に向けて3カ 月もじっくり準備をしてきた。けれども不幸なことに、数日前に家でうっかり右手 をやけどしてしまったのだった。彼の上司もチームメイトだったので棄権はしたく なかった。2日ほどの間に、なんとか左手を使えるように猛特訓することに決めた のだった。負けることはやむなし、しかしなんとか1点でも取れることを願わずに いられなかった。
