Keizou Moriguchi Collection
Taken during a tour to Lake Nojiri, Mr. Moriguchi’s mother, the first from the right hand side, stands next to an unknown gentleman who had sat down next to her. This gentleman had been a clerk at the Nihon University in Tokyo for some time, and he earned a very comfortable living. However in the last year the University campus had become chaotic as the students were often protesting. He could not understand why they were resentful as he felt their standard of living was high. Also his son who had recently been admitted to the famous Waseda University, which was an honour for the family, had also joined the student movement. This had led to many quarrels between them and he had become rather upset by this. Taking an opportunity while the campus was barricaded by the students, he had decided to take a short trip to visit his mother in their hometown, Shinanomachi. Here he walked slowly with his cane for half an hour each day to the lakeside where he could find some peace.
這是森口先生的母親跟鄰居遊覽野尻湖的紀念照片，她就站在右邊第一位，旁邊剛好 坐著一位不相識的大叔。大叔半生都在東京的日本大學任職文員，生活安定富裕。可 是近一年來學生時常吵鬧，校園一片混亂 ;他不明白生活那麼好，學生還要諸多不滿。 而家裏的孩子考上名校早稻田大學，本該是幸事，但他卻參與學生運動，經常跟父親 吵架。最近大叔心情很壞，反正校園又給學生封堵了，他索性向大學請了幾天假，獨 個兒回來信濃町的老家探望母親，每天都會撐著手杖從娘家走半個小時來到野尻湖畔 避靜散心。

野尻湖のツアーに参加した森口さんの母(右端の女性)の隣には、見知らぬ男性が たまたまそこに座っていた。この男性は東京にある日本大学で長いあいだ事務員を しており、十分な給料をもらっていた。けれども前年、学生の抗議運動で大学キャ ンパスは無秩序状態になった。どうして彼らがあれほど憤りを感じていたのか、生 活水準だって悪いわけではないのにと、彼は理解できずにいた。彼の息子は早稲田 大学に合格して、そのことは家族にとってとても名誉なことだったのにもかかわら ず、彼もまた学生運動にのめり込んでいったのだった。そのせいで親子の間では口 論ばかりで、もううんざりしていた。キャンパスが学生に封鎖されてしまっている 間をいい機会だと考えて、彼は生まれ故郷である信濃の母を尋ねようと小旅行に出 た。毎日杖をついて一時間半ほど、心静かに湖畔を逍遥していたのだった。
