This is a page from the Kamigo Junior High School year book and shows various scenes around the campus. In the picture at the lower left corner of the page, a woman on the right hand side is tidying her headscarf. Her husband was in Tokyo working in his brother’s kamaboko shop and would not be back until the new year. As there was not much farm work to do she had started to help in the school kitchen preparing lunch for the staff and the students. On one hand she could take the oppurtunity to observe her son’s school life, on the other it was a chance to get close to the teachers. However her son did not seem to appreciate this, which she understood. As her son grew older he preferred to hang out with his friends and did not want to be seen having his mother hanging around him.
這是《上鄕中學校 1972 年刊》所載有關校園文化祭的圖片。就在頁面的左下角見到 的是中午前的校內廚房，在右面的婦人正在整理頭巾。她孩子的爸自從秋收之後就到 了東京二伯家的魚糕店打工，新年之前大概不會回來。農務清閒，所以最近開始在村 裡的國中學校幹起為全校師生煮午膳的工作。一方面可以看看孩子的上課情況，又可 與老師們打好關係。可孩子以乎不大樂意，總是避免在校內跟她碰面。這她倒也明白， 孩子漸漸長大，有了自己的朋友，誰想被人看到媽媽跟進跟出呢!

この写真は、上郷中学校の年鑑に収められた一枚だ。ひとりの女性が窓の前でハン カチを畳もうとしているところが写っている。彼女の夫は東京にいて、兄弟が営む かまぼこ屋で働いており、その次の年まで出稼ぎに行ったままである。彼女は百姓 仕事もぼちぼちだったので、学校の食堂で、生徒や教師のための昼食の準備をする 仕事を始めることにした。息子の学校生活の様子を見られる機会があったり、教師 たちとお近づきになれる機会ができたりした。けれども息子はそれをありがたく思 っていないということを、彼女はよく分かっていた。大きくなればなるにつれて、 友人と出かけるようになって、彼女にそばにいてほしいなんて思わなくなるだろう。
