Before marrying Mr. Funabashi, Tamiko was a student at the Kayo Women’s Academy, a school where young women learnt how to become a housewife. The school organized a summer camp in the village of Kashimo in Gifu. The girl by herself at the left of the photo is concentrating on her movements to the music of Elvis Presley and Chubby Checker. She knew her mother would not approve of a dance like this, but she wanted to have some fun during this last summer before she transformed into someone’s wife.

舟橋氏と結婚する前、多美子さんは若い女性が専業主 婦になるための方法を学ぶ華陽女子学園の学生だっ た。その学校が運営する夏の合宿は岐阜市の加子母村 で行われた。写真の左側に写っている若い女性は、エ ルヴィス・プレスリーとチャビー・チェッカーの音楽に 合わせた振りに集中している。彼女は、母親がこのよう なダンスには良い印象を抱いていないことを知ってい た。それでも、誰かの花嫁になってしまう前に、この最 後の夏を楽しんでみたかったのだ。
