In the autumn of 1959 Mr. and Mrs. Mitsutaka Fujita went for a trip with their employees to Tokyo where they made a special visit to the Senso-ji Temple. In this photo, taken by Mr. Fujita, they stand next to the incense burner in front of the main hall with Mrs. Fujita rst from the left. Behind them a lady in traditional clothing prays faithfully and tries to become enfolded in the smoke from the incense burner. She had not slept well recently. A sense of loneliness came over her every time when she listened to Peggy Hayama’s hit song Having Left Tosa. She couldn’t help but think of her husband who had also left Tosa in Kochi Prefecture for China and never returned.

1959年の秋、藤田光孝夫妻は、従業員たちと共に東京 へ旅行にいき、浅草寺を訪れた。この写真は藤田氏が 撮影したもので、彼女たちは本堂前の常香炉の隣にな っており、一番左が藤田さんの奥さんだ。彼女たちの後 ろには、伝統的な衣装を身にまとった女性がしっかりと お祈りして、常香炉の煙に包まれようとしている。彼女 は最近、よく眠れていなかった。ペギー葉山のヒット曲 である「南国土佐を後にして」を聴くたびに、孤独と寂 しさが彼女をおそった。高知県の土佐から中国に渡っ て帰らない夫のことを思い出さずにはいられなかった のだ。
