On a hot day in the summer of 1970, Mr. Iwai’s mother took his brother and sister to visit the Japan World Expo in Osaka. The lady in the red mini-skirt standing at the back had come with her boyfriend who worked as an architect in Tokyo. They stopped in front of the Dream Pond to see the water sculpture named Nine Fountains which had been designed by Isamu Noguchi. After a long wait of several hours to visit the Apollo 12 Moon Rock exhibits in the American Pavilion she really appreciated the cool breeze from the fountains and was reading about the artist who made the sculptures.

1970年の暑い夏の日に、岩井さんの母親は、彼の弟と 妹と連れて、大阪で開催されていた日本万国博覧会を 訪れた。後ろに立っている赤いミニスカートの女性は、 東京で建築家をして働いていた彼氏と一緒にここに来 ていた。彼らは「夢の池」の前で立ち止まり、野口勇が 設計した9つの噴水で、「Ninefloatingfountains」と 名付けられた水の彫刻を見ていた。アメリカ館にある アポロ12号の月の石の展示を観るために何時間も待 たされた後だったので、彼女は噴水からの冷たい風を 心地よく感じながら、この彫刻を制作した芸術家に思 いをはせた。
