Visit to Mie. Gelatin silver print, 1956, 5.4 x 7.8 cm, Fujita Cosmetics Collection.

In this photo Mr. Mitsutaka Fujita, sitting on the wall at the centre, is on a business trip to Mie Prefecture. He is having a break with his colleagues at the Yano River Pass. The gentleman with his back to the camera is the owner of a pharmacy in Nagoya. Though amazed by the great view of Mikisato and Kata Bay, he strongly believed that industry and urban development were the best ways to revive the country. Scratching his back casually he conveyed news he had heard from his friend, who worked in the prefectural government, about a new road that would be built to connect the cities of Owase and Kumano. It would be a pity to miss this beautiful view but he would be happy with the time it would save him.
