It is a few days before the Tanabata Festival, and the Endoji Shopping Street is already decorated with giant paper streamers. It was very hot and there had been little rain in the past few weeks. On some days the temperature had exceeded 35°C. The boy standing on the far right of the photo is with his brother who sits on the bicycle next to him. They had been working for a few local shops setting up festival decorations and had earned some pocket money. They were discussing how to spend their afternoon after all the hard work of the last few days. They agreed that there would be nothing better than hanging out on the riverbank near the Meijo Castle with a Meito Ice Cream Bar.

七夕祭の数日前、円頓寺商店街はすでに大きな紙製の吹 き流しで彩られていた。ここ数週間は気温が高く、雨もほと ん ど 降 っ て い な か っ た 。気 温 が 3 5 度 を 超 え た 日 も あ っ た 。 写真の右端に写っている少年は、弟と一緒にいて、弟はす ぐ隣で自転車に座っている。彼らは、祭りの飾り付けをする 地元のいくつかの商店で働いて、お小遣いを稼いでいた。 ここ数日の大変な仕事を終え、彼らは午後の過ごし方を話 し合っていた。そして、名糖のアイスクリームバーを持って、 名古屋城の近くの川岸をぶらぶらする、ということで意見 が一致した。
