The Gramophone of Time—Shanghai, postcard, photographed by Xiao Lin, published by Momicafe, 2012, 10.5 x 16.5 cm.

This scene of an old street in Shanghai was actually taken around the same time of the postcard production in spite of its retro-design with a vintage-like stamp. Early in the morning, the vehicle traffic here is literally zero. In the centre, a man carrying loads of possibly fruits with his shoulder pole walks on the road to avoid the crowd on the pavement. Many would be tourists from other parts of China. He, as a local Shanghainese hawker, perhaps is also heading to the same scenic spot as they are. They could be his customers whom he does not like.
