Founded in 1956, the now famous Tanabata Festival of the Endoji neighbourhood was previously known as the “Brides’ Parade” (Hanayome Gyouretsu). In its predecessor as part of the celebration, all the male participants dressed as brides. In this photo we see an amusing moment where Mr. Mitsutaka Fujita shows his pride at “becoming” a woman, while the woman who helps him dress tries to hide from the camera. She was 35 and not yet married. Though cheerful and active in the community, she had become embarrassed about being photographed as she herself was not yet a bride.

1956年から始まった、今や有名な円頓寺七夕まつりだが、その前身は、なんと男性の参加者全員が祝い事の ために花嫁に扮した”花嫁行列”だった。この写真には、 クスッと笑える仕草が写されている。この写真の藤田光 孝氏は、女性に「なる」ことに誇りを持っている様子な のに対して、彼の着付けを手伝っている女性はカメラ から逃げようとしている。彼女は35歳で、まだ結婚して いなかった。地域では陽気で快活な性格として知られ ていたが、まだ花嫁になったことのない彼女にとって は、ばつが悪かったのだ。
