Ashton Webb's Prophecy

Aston Webb's Prophecy,
light box with etched plexiglas, framed in steel, 125.5 x 100cm, 2011. Text taken from Aston Webb's London of the Future, 1921 in which he talks about having to "construct as well as destroy”?He would like to see a new city grow up on the south of the river, a city in which the gray streets should be opened up and the gloomy tenements swept away, in which light and air and beauty would be led into those parts of the city.” reported in The New York Times on Jan 26, 1913.

Installation view. Aston Webb’s design of the dome of Hong Kong’s LEGCO building is commonly inspired by the St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
