On 9 October 1947, a depressed farmer, Mat Taram bin Sa'al, killed eleven people in a stabbing rampage and wounded ten others on a Kuala Lumpur-bound train and at a company near Bangi, Malaya, before reaching the destination. He was later arrested and sentenced to confinement in a mental hospital.
